Computer Problems

I didn't blog last week because I took a short trip home to visit family and friends. I was very excited when I came home to upload all the great pictures and talk about my fun trip to Louisville. But...my computer wouldn't turn on or go past the first page. So I have a computer apointment on Friday at the Mac store. Hopefully they will be either able to fix it or at least retrieve all the information I don't have backed up. So stay tunned and hopefully by this weekend I will be able to post the pictures from Louisville and tell you all about the fun times.

More Birthdays

Lots of Brian's co-interns have birthdays in August. Last night we celebrated Joe's birthday at a fun bar called The Black Door. Joe had rented out the back room, so it was a lot of fun and we had a great time. Notice in the picture how Brian has his hair kind of spiked or gelled. Well he never puts gel in his hair for work so on the weekends whenever we go out they are always like "What's with Brian's spiked hair?" I never even think twice about it because he always fixes his hair like this. It's funny though that it never fails even after a year of hanging out with these people they still comment about his hair.

This weekend the weather is so beautiful but Brian is on call today so he has to work and that's no fun. Hopefully if he's not too tired tomorrow we can go on another long bike ride together.

Playground Dangers

I am not a mom yet but I am a nanny. One of the things I love about New York City and kids are all the supper fun parks and playgrounds that the city offers. They really are a necessity since almost no one has a back yard. Wyatt is the little boy I watch and he lives within a 5 to 10 minute walk to four different playgrounds. I usually don't blog about work stuff but this made me so mad I had to share. On Friday we at one of these great playgrounds on the swings. I didn't notice the group of kids about 25 feet away who were...THROWING ROCKS. Not little gravel pebbles but big huge rocks. What made me notice is when I was hit all of a sudden in the stomach with a rock. It was thrown hard enough to leave a little whelp for a couple of hours. You better believe I left Wyatt in the swing, marched over there and really gave it to them. I was hoping whoever was in charge of the kids heard me, well the whole playground probably could. They were age range from 7 to 10 probably so they knew better. I was standing right in front of the swing pushing Wyatt so it could have just as easily hit him in the head, that's what made me so angry. I love the playground but seriously sometimes parents or caretakers really need to pay attention to what their kids are doing. This is just me venting and now I feel a lot better.

Visit from Mom & Dad

On Saturday afternoon Brian's parents came in for a visit. We went to lunch and hung out while we watched the Yankees dominate. Then we went to this awesome wine bar/italian restaurant for dinner called Uva. And this morning we went to breakfast, so basically we just ate and ate and ate. Everywhere we went was so delicious. Thanks Mom & Dad for the wonderful meals and for coming for a visit. All in all I would say that Brian had a well celebrated and wonderful birthday week.

Yesterday Brian celebrated his 27th Birthday. We went out to dinner with friends and then met up with more people from Brian's work and went to a couple of bars. Brian had a great Birthday week. I planned all of Brian's favorites for dinner and special deserts, presents on Sunday and Thursday night, last night we went out and today Brian's parents are in town and the fun continues. Any holiday that involves presents and a celebration we like to draw it out as long as possible. I made Brian this delicious blueberry upside down cake and it turned out so good that we ate the whole thing in two days.

gredients

• 4 tablespoons butter, melted, plus more for souffle dish
• 1/3 cup plus 3 tablespoons light-brown sugar
• 1 1/2 cups blueberries, picked over and cleaned
• 3/4 cup cake flour (not self-rising)
• 1 teaspoon baking powder
• 1/4 teaspoon salt
• 1 large egg
• 1/4 cup milk, room temperature

Directions

1. Heat oven to 350 degrees. Butter a 1-quart, 5 1/2-inch-diameter souffle dish. Pour 2 tablespoons melted butter into the souffle dish. Sprinkle 3 tablespoons brown sugar over butter. Scatter 1 cup blueberries over sugar. Set aside.
2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. In another medium bowl, whisk together remaining 2 tablespoons butter, remaining 1/3 cup brown sugar, and the egg. Whisk the milk into the egg mixture. Add flour mixture; whisk until batter is smooth.
3. Pour half the batter into souffle dish. Sprinkle remaining 1/2 cup blueberries over batter. Spread remaining batter over blueberries. Bake until a cake tester inserted in the middle of the cake comes out clean of batter, about 45 minutes. Immediately unmold cake, inverting it onto a serving dish. Serve warm with whipped cream if desired.

Annual Soccer Game

So I know I said I would have lots of photos to share from this past weekend but I forgot the battery in the charger for the camera. So we only have one bad picture from the iphone. We did have an awesome time on Saturday though. Columbia had the annual soccer game and cookout at one of the doctor's house. We had a limo pick us up and take us too the game so that was fun. I can now say I have been in a limo with a bunch of boys in soccer gear when before it was usually tuxes. Brian was an all star in the game and scored many goals. I am so glad the weather was cooperating and it was such a beautiful day.

On Thursday night after work all the ortho guys on the shoulder rotation met up at this bar next to the hospital and had dinner and then karaoke. Just think of the scenes ant the end of Grey's Anatomy at the bar and this was just like that. Brian did get on stage with a bunch of girls and did N'Sync Bye Bye Bye. You know how much he loves his Justin. Now at work they keep teasing him about how good his moves are.
