Sunday Bike Ride

On Sunday it was so beautiful so we went on a long bike ride around Central Park. The leaves changing were so pretty and the weather was in the mid 60s. We stopped at the end to take a few pictures of the colorful leaves but we realized the only place we stopped had the least amount of changed leaves. Oh well it was still an awesome relaxing day. To end the night we watched the Yankees game with some friends. I knew it was going to be a Phillies vs. Yankees World Series. The man in my house sure is a happy boy.

Applewood Orchards

Today we headed an hour north of the city to take in a little fall farm fun. It was raining off and on all day but we didn't let the freezing rain stop us and since the weather was so bad there was hardly anyone there. We went with my cousin Stephen, his girlfriend Sylvia, and their daughter Elaina. We picked apples in the apple orchard, did wine tastings at the winery, pet animals, rode on a tractor, and had lunch at Syder Barn Tavern in the country town. What you would call a typical city day. Elaina was cute because she was amazed at how many trees there were and all the colors of the leaves, because besides Central Park there aren't really many big parks in the city and before that she lived in Florida and they only have palm trees. It was really a great day and we have a lot of apples. Maybe next year it won't be so wet.

These were the apple picking rules, which we did break a few but no one kicked us out

The night before we enjoyed an evening out at our favorite sports bar ESPN Zone to watch the Yankees game. They won but it was a really long 14 inning game that went to 1:00am. Why are baseball games so long sometimes? Brian is very excited because there is a god chance that his two favorite teams will be in the World Series: Yankees vs. Phillies maybe? We will be cheering them both on.

A fun tip

I haven't had anything exciting to blog about in a while but yesterday I was watching the Rachel Ray show before I went to work and there was a fashion expert on with a great tip I thought I would share. He was talking about skinny and tight jeans and how if you wash them they will become too tight and not fit right anymore. His solution was to spot wash them if you have a stain but to just kill germs and odor roll them up and put in a baggie and freeze them for 48 hrs. The cold temperature will kill any bacteria an odor and the fit of the jean will not be compromised. He said you can also do this with sweaters and other garments that are not wash machine friendly. I found this to be a very interesting tip that I had never ever heard before. I might use it to see if it works the next time my skinny jeans need to be washed.

Celebrating My Birthday

Yesterday was my 26th Birthday. It was a really great birthday. Thank you to all my friends and family for the nice gifts and sweet cards and phone calls, they really made my day. The best part of my birthday though was spending it with Brian. He came home with such pretty colorful roses after being on call the night before. He was very tired so he took a little nap but then we got ready to celebrate. I wore a really cute dress that Brian picked out himself for my birthday. We went to Gramercy Tavern for dinner and the food was amazing. The bartender told us that on Thursday Michelle Obama ate there and they closed down the entire street, so that was a pretty cool tidbit. We ate for 2.5 hours and after every plate they brought new silverware so I think we used about 5 sets. we just had a great time indulging in a wonderful dinning experience. I did get one surprise present from one of Brian's new friends. Suzy and Jack Welch sent me a dozen roses and I think Brian felt like his roses were trumped but I love the colors in the flowers Brian picked out and they look great together. Altogether I had an awesome birthday.

Fall is Here

Just thought I would write a quick post to let everyone know what we have been up to. I love Fall and this week marked the first official day on Tuesday. In honor of the 1st day of Fall I made a big pot of chili. The one thing I miss about eating chili is sharing it with the Dursts. We would usually go over to each others house and make a big pot, watch some football and chat. The funny thing is I talked to Nikki while I was making the chili and she had made it the night before. We like our chili the same way with a kick, noodles, crackers, and cheese. We both talked about the huge amount of left overs and how it was going to be a two night meal. The only thing better than chili in the Fall is sharing it.

Brian started on a night float rotation this week and it lasts for three more weeks. His hours are 7pm-7am and he sleeps during the day and only gets off on Saturdays. I am glad that I usually have off Tuesdays & Thursdays otherwise we would see each other once a week. We usually miss each other by one hour on either end. But it's better than him having to take call in the hospital 2-3 times a week for a 32 hour shift. And they only have to do this for two months (his next rotation starts mid Jan) in their second year. Time has been going by fast though that it will be over with before long.

Last week Brian brought me to one of his casual rep dinners at a wing place because it wasn't full and two other people were bringing their spouses. Spouses aren't usually allowed to go to these events but this one was wing and beer. But it was weird the rep had a table set up in the back of the restaurant with saw bones and screws and plates for them to practice with. Anyone who was not in our party was probably like what is going on in here. Next time I will bring my camera. Hope everyone has a great week.

Naples, FL Vacation

Spotted the Schulz's in sunny Naples Florida. Last week we took a family vacation with my parents to Naples, FL. It was much needed rest and relaxation. We had a wonderful time hanging at the beach and the pool and going to dinner. Our hotel was so nice it was really a resort with 3 pools and golf cart service to take you to the beach. It was the off season so the town was empty. We never had to wait anywhere we went and the pool was never overcrowded. Here are a few pictures of our trip. I will post more later in the week.

Brian was so happy to have some time off
