Weekend Update

So I didn't have anything to blog about this weekend because Brian was on call and I also worked. Nothing much is new with us. I did finish all 4 Twilight books so now I can get back to a normal life except now I have consumed myself with another big project. I decided to catch up on my scrapbook that I started when Brian and I began dating. I hadn't worked on it much since our wedding but I am proud to say that by the end of the week I should be done with it up to the point of us moving to NYC. I got the rest of the pictures in the mail from Shutterfly today that I needed to complete it. This is a huge weight off my shoulder. Don't get me wrong I love to scrapbook, but its much more enjoyable when you can do a few pages to recapture what you did at the end of each month rather that playing catch up with the last 3.5 years.  Once this book is finished I am starting a new one because I don't think I could squeeze one more page in. What else is new? Apparently all of Brian's patients love him at work. He has been getting cards, Starbucks gift cards, and requests for him to care for some of the special VIP patients. I am glad that he is putting that southern hospitality to good use in a city where it's defiantly appreciated. What can I say, I'm a proud wife. We do have some fun stuff planned this weekend and next. I hope everyone is having a great summer.

A fun weekend

This weekend we enjoyed the beautiful HOT weather and had so much fun. On Saturday we went to Central Park and laid out and read. Saturday night we went out with Bob and Kristine to eat Japanese barbeque and then went to this random bar called Fat Cat. At first when you see Fat Cat you think its going to just be a little low key pub but that was not the case. Sports bar is an understatement as well. Fat Cat was a huge sports table gaming bar. There were about 15 pool tables, 10 ping pong tables, 5 shuffle board tables, and about 20 tables with Scrable and chess. We are not sure who would really want to go to a bar and play chess on a Saturday night but whatever. It was just so random but Brian got some good ping pong in.

On Sunday we went on a really long bike ride. First I should mention that a couple weeks ago we bought bikes. Brian's is a road bike and mine is a hybrid. Brian has been riding to work so he gets about 80 to 100 miles a week commuting. On the weekends we are going to try and bike to different places in the city. On Sunday we biked to the park by the Hudson river in Tribecca. It was about 45 mins to the park then we rested and enjoyed the view and biked another 45 mins back. When we got home I was pretty tired, but I am so glad we got our bikes.

The nets were up to keep the ping pong balls in line
At Fat Cat Brian bought PBRs and we took the ones left home

ME Time

So I have been away from the blog for a couple of weeks now.  It's not that we don't have anything exciting going on in our lives, it's just that summer has finally arrived in NYC and after long hot days of work and play I really haven't felt like blogging. Well, since I got that off my chest, one of the things I have been doing is enjoying ME time.  I finally have a regular work schedule going of working M,W,F and one to two nights per week (almost regular). So on my off days, Tu & Th, I usually do laundry and clean the apt and pay bills and all that stuff that no one ever really wants to do. This week I decided I didn't feel like doing chores and I wanted to enjoy this beautiful weather and just get out. Brian always encourages me to get out and not do chores because he says "Well we can just do the chores together and they will go by twice as fast." He really is a rare find. Anyways, I have joined the Twilight bandwagon and I just can't seem to do anything in my spare time these days besides read. On Tuesday I went and bought the second book, picked up a mocha from Starbucks, headed to Central Park, and soaked up rays for four hours or so while I read (by the way I am now on the third book and I hope to finish this blog soon so I can get back to my book).  Then on Thursday I went to take a dance class. I haven't taken a class in about 4 years so you can imagine the soreness I am feeling today. But it was worth it because I had so much fun, and even though I was not as flexible as I used to be its amazing how your body remembers all the correct technique. After dance I went went home, finished the second book, and then made a trip to the book store to pick up the third book in the Twilight series. This weekend Brian is off and we don't have any plans so I'm sure I will have pictures to share next week, but for now I am enjoying my ME time and if you are having a stressful day I suggest you indulge in a little ME time as well and I promise you will feel much better. Have a great weekend ya'll.

4th of July Weekend

This weekend we went to Maryland to visit Brian's parents for the long holiday weekend. It was so nice that Brian and I had a 3 day weekend.  Stephen also came in-town for a visit. We were just missing Andrew but he was in Hilton Head with friends. It was a nice relaxing weekend. We went shopping at the outlets, out to eat, a crab and shrimp feast at home, watched sports and movies, drank beer, and lots of quality time with Foster. We had the most beautiful weather, it was sunny and 80 everyday. Hope everyone had a great 4th.

Watching the sunset and fireworks on the bay

Stephen brought his girlfriend's dog so Foster would have a playmate

Crafts & Cooking

These are two things that I think I do best. I love to do any type of crafts and I could probably create some sort of project for every holiday or occasion. Since we have moved to New York I haven't been crafting as much because of the limited work space, all my craft supplies are under the bed and there isn't a Michael's close by.  Since we now have a much larger apartment I have more room to craft. I started back up on some of my scrap-booking and this weekend I took on a furniture project. I have been looking for an old desk to revamp for our computer and all of our office junk. We have a thrift store down the street and I have stopped in a couple of times looking for a desk. Well, on Saturday I found exactly what I was looking for and it was a great price. After we paid for it we had 48 hours to pick it up. Brian was like how are we going to get this home? I said we can just carry it, we only live about 10 blocks away. I only made it 1/2 a block and needed to rest. Brian was like are you kidding me, you really need a break, we will never make it home. So he decided to try and fit it in a cab. He hailed an SVU cab but it wouldn't fit so Brian was on a mission for a mini-van cab. Finely after trying to wheel it down the street on a flat dolly and it falling off 3 times in a 20 foot distance Brian hailed a mini-van. Of course the cab did not want to put the desk in his cab but Brian talked him into it.

After the drama of getting it home my evening project was to transform it from a dingy musty desk with an ugly black & blue crackle finish to our cute little shabby chic desk while Brian watched soccer. I primed it with this great primer that can go on any surface even if it's glossy without having to sand it down first. Then I painted and scratched it up and decoupaged a pretty piece of decorative paper on top. I just wish I could do this for my job everyday, minus the transporting of the desk.

Here I am hard at work
The finished product, I should have taken a before shot but I didn't think about it

As for cooking, this past week I have been making a lot of home cooked meals including this apple pie and I also made a homemade pizza that turned out awesome. Making pizzas are so much better than frozen ones and it's fun too.

Brian's 2nd Year

Congratulations Brian for getting through your first year of residency. Intern year was brutal on Brian, his case of shingles due to stress and lack of sleep is a definite testament to how hard intern year of residency is. So one year down and four more to go, well make that five for one year of a fellowship who knows where. At least for the the rest of his training he will be working only on orthopedics and no more general surgery rotations. I am really proud of Brian and he does a wonderful job of being a great husband, and balancing home life with studying and working 80 hour weeks. On Wednesday night the department had a graduation dinner at a really nice country club to celebrate the end of one year and beginning of another. Time does go by fast I can't believe we have already been in New York for one year. Here's to the next four more.

Happy Father's Day!

Brian and I would just like to send our love to our dads since we could not be with them today. We both have wonderful dads who have many similar qualities. They work very hard and are successful to be able to provide for their families. The are both very down to earth, compassionate, giving, always truthful, love their wives with all their heart, and are proud dads. They like to have a good time, fish, watch sports, and have a cold beer on the couch. This may be why I love Brian so much and I know one day he will be a great dad because I see these qualities in him as well. Whenever I get off the phone with my dad I say I love you because it's important to tell the people you love that you love them whenever you have the chance. Dads we love you, and we hope you have a wonderful Father's Day.
